ABOUT THE ARTIST – SUE HOURIGAN
I have now been painting for about 30 years and it seems that having a paint brush or stick of pastel in my hand has pretty much become a way of life.
After working full time in a technical job for over 30 years I decided about 5 years ago to make more time for my real passion – my art. I now work part time, and am enjoying the luxury of spending more time in the studio and out in the beautiful Australian landscape.
I am a founding member of the Passionate Palettes art group at Moyhu. The group meet regularly to share their interest and exchange ideas and art information.
I live in beautiful Greta, Victoria with my husband – our farm is the source of many of my painting subjects!
The biggest influence on my work has been through well known Shepparton artist, Ross Paterson, whose work I admire greatly. At the same time I have been influenced by many other artists through various workshops in different media. This learning, along with my own dedication through “brush mileage” has got me to a point in my art career where I am confident to tackle any subject, interpreting it in my own unique style. I work in oil, pastel, watercolour, pencil and graphite media.
I am a member of the Wangaratta Artist’s Society and Bright Art Gallery. I was the 2010 art winner of the Myrtleford Festival Art and Photography Exhibition, and have exhibited and sold my works at various North East Victorian art shows over the years. More recently I received a first prize award for the local scene section at Wangaratta Rotary Art Show in 2015, and highly commended awards at Wangaratta Rotary Art Show in 2013 and 2014, 2016, Bright Art Exhibition in 2013, and Corowa Art Exhibition in 2014. Many of my paintings are now sold as commission works.
