Frances works in a variety of media, Oils, Pastels, Watercolour, Pencil, Inks, Mixed Media and Glass – Leadlight, Stained Glass, Fused and Slumped Glass. When creating a work of art the medium is carefully selected to enhance the purpose being portrayed. Colour, proportion and value are major components of the design process to which Frances pays detailed attention. From these atmosphere and mood are produced.
All Frances’s works are inspired by nature and the environment within which she lives, works and visits. Frances works in a variety of modes. Sometimes she works in a finely defined realistic manner, through to impressionistic and surrealist mode, other times in an expressionistic abstract manner. The medium in which a piece of work is created will often define the level of abstraction of the finished art.
Frances has completed formal training at the Melbourne School of Art and photography and at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. She has also attended many workshops in her thirst for knowledge. Some of her most treasured mentors are:- Robert Gill, Jeremy Barrett, Moss, Hilary Sullivan, John Balmain, Muriel Balmain, Joseph Edleman, Ray Black, Ross Patterson, Charles Sluga and many others. Frances has won a number of awards for her painting and glass work.
Frances lives and works in Bright Victoria where she has a studio. Frances likes to share her knowledge and love of art so she teaches from her studio. Prior to coming to Bright from Melbourne she ran classes for Adults and Children, for many years. She also spent many years designing leadlight and stained glass windows for a leading leadlight company, The Lead Balloon.
Frances has exhibited widely in group exhibitions and has had several solo exhibitions. Frances has work in many private collections in Australia and overseas. Frances is a member of the Pastel Society of Victoria, & Alpine Artists
